  • Second marriages in contemporary Poland. Demographic sketch
The number of newly contracted marriages in Poland, remaining in a relatively narrow range of 180–200 thousand. annually in the decade leading up to 2020, has a calming effect on most familiologists and gamologists. Meanwhile, the relatively constant number of new marriages was accompanied by a significant change in their structure from the point of view of the marital status of the newlyweds. In the last dozen or so years, we have witnessed a rapid increase in the share of repeat marriages, i.e. marriages in which at least one of the newlyweds with previous marital experience is standing at the wedding carpet. The aim of this study is both to indicate the increasing importance of repeat marriages and to try to explain the reasons for this increase, as well as to indicate potential research fields related to the demographic and social consequences of the above change.
