• The activity of the Surface Protection Commission at the State Mining Authority
    The activities of the Surface Protection Commission at the State Mining Authority are regulated by an ordinance, and its composition is governed by the decision of the President of the WUG. The tasks of the commission include giving opinions on the state of general safety related to the exploitation of minerals, and in particular evaluation of mining exploitation programs and giving opinions on: mining and construction prevention in mining areas, methods of mine closure and directions of post-mining land development, together with an assessment of their suitability for development. In addition, the commission initiates research on the impact of mining activities on the environment and building structures, and gives opinions on draft regulations, Polish Standards and instructions regarding the above-mentioned issues. In the years 2012-2020, the commission considered 24 applications, most often applications on mining near Bytom and Marklowice, in the Lubin protection pillar, and on the mining scale of seismic intensity. A special problem discussed at the meeting of the commission was the letter on shortcomings in forecasting the impacts of the planned exploitation by mining entrepreneurs. The list of applications approved by the committee in 2012-2020 shows that their number is gradually decreasing, which results, inter alia, from from the restructuring of hard coal mining, which resulted in the end of operation near the center of Bytom, as well as the Wirek district in Ruda Śląska.
  • Drilling tunnel connectors of the II line of the Warsaw metro
    The article presents technical problems arising in connection with boring tunnels of the II metro line in Warsaw, related to the existing geological and mining conditions along the route of the tunnels being constructed. Possible and applied technical solutions to strengthen the water-tight soils in the places of future tunnel connectors are discussed. The procedure of quality control of cement-soil was described, indicating methods of removing its discontinuities.

    The article presents selected functionalities of the Matterhorn computer system using drones and the possibilities of its use in optimizing the processes accompanying mining robots in opencast mining plants, aimed at increasing work safety, reducing risk and improving efficiency thanks to saving time and reducing the wear of machine parts.
