  • The quality of hair shampoos depends on the type of the main surfactant
Shampoos are one of the most important segments of the cosmetics market. Their basic task is to clean the hair and scalp from dust, sebum, microorganisms, which is why the consumer first of all expects the shampoo to have good washing properties. Consumers' properties and product viscosity are also important in consumer choices. The aim of this work is to assess the surface activity, foaming properties and viscosity of several shampoos available on the Polish market. The analysis included shampoos with "classic composition" and shampoos containing ingredients of natural origin. The critical concentration of micellization was determined by measuring the surface tension using a tensiometer using the du Noüy method. On the other hand, wetting properties were evaluated on the basis of the value of the contact angle. Both the size of the contact angle and the CMC value indicate that shampoos containing ingredients of natural origin can compete in quality with classic shampoos.
