- The Office of Technical Inspection still needs new inspectors
The continuous increase of devices subject to supervision and the expanding scope of activities of the Office of Technical Inspection means that the institution needs new, highly qualified employees from year to year. Therefore, looking for engineers who would like to link their professional career with UDT. The Office of Technical Inspection employs over 1800 people, the majority of whom are inspectors, the remaining employees are employed in administrative-technical and IT positions. Technical supervision is carried out throughout Poland, which is why the company is looking for employees throughout the country, offering attractive and stable employment. A person who wants to become an inspector of technical supervision must have higher technical education, preferably in metallurgy or machine construction. Electrotechnics and mechatronics graduates are also welcome. UDT is looking for students and graduates of such fields of study as: mechanics and machine construction, power engineering, electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, metallurgy, administration, economics, law, IT, finance, as well as people with experience (at least 2 years) in various industries of broadly understood technology, e.g. in the design or maintenance of equipment subject to control.
- The biggest construction disasters in Poland
Building disasters may affect all types of buildings regardless of their purpose, size, construction technologies, construction time and may occur during their construction and operation. The paper indicates the causes of the biggest construction disasters that occurred in Poland after World War II. Construction disasters involving the unforeseen destruction of buildings or parts of buildings are undesirable events (due to various reasons) occurring accidentally in construction, from the beginning of man's construction activity to the present. Construction disasters may concern: - all types of buildings regardless of their purpose, size, construction technologies, construction time and they may occur during their construction and operation, and - all countries regardless of their degree of socio-economic development. The scale of the problem is evidenced by the frequency of these adverse events expressed in their number during the year and the direct and indirect effects caused by the number of injured persons and the extent of material losses. Due to the importance of building disaster events for human life and the need to eliminate them, or at least reducing the number of their occurrences, the issues of construction disasters are the subject of numerous publications in Poland in which the definitions of the concept adopted in the law are clarified.
- Tests on the effectiveness of eye protection against mechanical impacts
The article describes the results of experimental tests on the strength of protective glasses in the aspect of ensuring eye protection in accident situations. Surprising results have been obtained confirming the high effectiveness and sense of using this protective agent. Goggles protect better according to the results obtained, but open safety glasses can also protect against injury or loss of the eye in many situations. The main conclusion is that eye protection should not be underestimated. The inspiration to write the article was an accident in which an employee operating the crank driven device suffered eye damage as a result of the crank hub sliding off the driven shaft and hitting the eye. Wearing protective goggles was required at the workplace, but the injured person did not use them. It was necessary to determine whether the use of glasses could significantly reduce the risk of injury.
- Design and certification of welding and welding systems according to management standards for European and Canadian processes
The EN 1090-1 standard "Principles for assessing the conformity of structural elements" sets out the conditions for the CE marking for the design, manufacture and assembly of steel structures. When constructing buildings with a steel skeleton, the company should have design qualifications, which involves the ability to verify documentation in terms of welding by a properly trained designer, as well as the skill of the verifier to perform manual verification calculations according to Eurocodes and checking the model design at the institute that developed European standards. The problem of incorrect translation of the word "welding", meaning welding and welding in the translation of European standards into Polish, arose in a situation where there was a need to issue the CE mark on steel construction structures, where next to welding there is the process of spot welding of rods and sheets, as well as there are linearly welded profiles. Although such constructions are welded from metallurgical products, nowadays, due to resistance to mining damage and slimming of steel structures of large span halls, welded and welded rectangular closed pipes and profiles are used, which are produced with the help of machinery purchased by factories constructions, often of English production. A simple certificate for the tape from which the profile is rolled up is not enough, but the CE mark should also be issued for the product manufactured using the welding process. This involves the need to have a Factory Production Control also for welding according to EN1090-1. Since the certification process for the welding process, according to EN1090, we discussed in the previous article, in this article we will present the certification of the welding process in combination with the certification of the welding process, in the light of the requirements of European and Canadian standards.
