- 100th anniversary of mining supervision in Poland and 30th anniversary of publishing the monthly WUG (Higher Mining Office)
- You are now receiving a publication prepared on the occasion of two significant anniversaries related to the activity of the State Mining Authority in Katowice. The first is the 100th anniversary of mining supervision in Poland, reborn after the partitions. The contemporary Polish mining supervision began writing its history on June 24, 1922. On that day, by a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland, the Higher Mining Office in Katowice was established, and then within three days within it, four district mining offices subordinated to it were established: in Rybnik, Królewska Huta (now Chorzów), Katowice and Tarnowskie Góry.
The second event that we commemorate is the 30th anniversary of the publication by WUG of the monthly "Safety of Work and Environmental Protection in Mining", which has been continuously available to you since 1992 - initially as a quarterly, and since 1996 as a monthly. For many years, historical and curiosity publications have been an important part of it, which are linked by one important issue - all of them are related to the broadly understood mining industry. Both in Poland and in the world. And because the issues discussed in them have always attracted great interest from readers, we have selected the most interesting ones and we remind them of them in this issue of the monthly. It is twice as large as usual, so there is no shortage of attractive reading topics.
Coming back to the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of WUG under the Honorary Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, the highlight will be the ceremonial academy, which will take place on June 24 this year. in Katowice. It will include an opportunity to present a new banner highlighting the 100-year history of WUG. The anniversary will also be commemorated by a commemorative medal, a large-format exhibition presenting the history and the present of the office and a "time capsule", which will be placed within the walls of the seat of the State Mining Authority.
