• Energy management of thermal potential of water from mine drainage processes
The article discusses the circular economy assumptions in relation to mine waters and their properties that predispose them to be used as a low-temperature source of heat and cold. Examples of geothermal installations made in Poland and in the world as well as work carried out in this area by ITG KOMAG are also presented. Based on the experience gained and a review of the installations carried out, initial assumptions for the design of heat and cold recovery systems from mine water were formulated.
  • Waste as a source of raw material - example of ZGH "Bolesław"
The article presents an innovative way of mining waste management at Zakłady Górniczo-Hutnicze "Bolesław", which created a new opportunity to supply steelworks with zinc-lead concentrate. The rational flotation waste management carried out by the enterprise, including on re-processing of generated waste, minimizes their negative impact, and thus protects the surrounding environment. The measures taken also contribute to the protection of zinc and lead ore deposits.
  • Possibilities of applying the opt-out clause in the mining industry to the proposed changes in the applicable working time systems
The article presents the legal status in Poland in the scope of applying the opt-out clause in the working time system according to the European Union legislation. It was proposed to introduce the Voluntary Labor Code to the use of this form of additional employment, which would significantly reduce the violation of legal provisions in the field of working time in all sectors of activity, and thus also in mining. The proposals for such a change to the Labor Code already contained a draft of its amendment of May 2018, but due to the numerous protests of trade unions it was not introduced.
